Superheroes, manga & cosplayer: the Lucca Comics & Games fantasy show

In Tuscany there is an event that all fans of comics in Italy - and abroad - wait with excitement every year. More than a festival, it is a real open-air party, an unconditional tribute to fantasy. We are talking about the Lucca Comics & Games, scheduled as usual between late October and early November, on the occasion of Ognissanti Italian celebration.

The 2019 edition takes place from 30 October to 3 November in the historical city centre of Lucca, crowned by suggestive Renaissance walls. The collateral exhibitions of Lucca Comics & Games are already set up and are open to visitors from 12 October to 3 November.

The Japan way

Lucca Comics & Games is strictly bound to the passion for comics, a world as fascinating as it is diverse and international. Loved by boys and adults of all ages, this kind of publication has evolved progressively bewitching entire generations all over the world. In this paper universe, Japan has traditionally distinguished itself for its linguistic style and the peculiarity of illustrations.

The manga is one of the fantasy cornerstones celebrated during the Lucca Comics, with speeches, shows, lots of dedicated stands and performances by expert cosplayers. All in a strictly Japanese style, of course. Geishas, samurais and heroes of comic strips made in Japan wander through the streets and in the main squares of the city centre, blowing inside Renaissance palaces an exotic wind. The atmosphere is magical!

Not just manga

Next to Japanese manga and anime, this festival hosts the protagonists of the most played video games, heroes and heroines of cult movies and TV series, wide-ranging fantasy characters.

To sum up, original disguises and deviation from reality are fundamental requisites to fully immerse in Lucca Comics & Games. If you don't like dressing up, do not worry: the participation to the event - if you purchased your ticket - is not linked to a specific dress code.

Of course, disguise is an integral part of the game, but walking in your daily clothes through an ocean of tight costumes, feathered wings, colourful kimonos and inhabitants of parallel universes is really fun.

Try it to believe it!
